Parking in Angers

Like many major cities, the Angers metropolitan area offers park‑and‑ride facilities close to tram lines. This is a convenient way for commuters from the surrounding countryside to reach the city centre. Park‑and‑ride spots are free for holders of a valid public‑transport pass. Other drivers can purchase a ticket at the parking access machines at a special rate.

To park in the city centre, 9,500 paid spaces are managed by the Angers Region Development Agency. The introduction of the tram has reshaped traffic rules, creating pedestrian zones and shared spaces for different transport modes. New bike‑friendly areas are also changing the character of several neighbourhoods.

First‑hour free parking

Angers stands out with a policy that makes the first hour of parking free – perfect for quick errands! “Minute‑stop” kiosks have also been installed, offering 20 minutes of free parking at several downtown car parks.

Despite these initiatives, collaborative parking is helping improve how we park, especially as a parking spot becomes a valuable commodity. Renting spaces from private owners is cheaper and more convenient, providing a complementary solution to traditional public or private car parks.
