Parking in Carcassonne

Located in the Aude department, Carcassonne is a must‑stop. This medieval citadel, built over 2,000 years ago on a small plateau, has welcomed countless civilizations. With 45 000 residents, the city attracts around 500 000 visitors each year to the Château Comtal.

To serve tourists, the historic centre offers three car parks that operate identically. Rates and opening hours are the same for Parking P0 and P1 (access via the Narbonnaise gate) and for Parking P2 (access via the Aude gate). On all three, the first half‑hour is free, then €1 per 15 minutes up to two hours. Beyond two hours the price drops by 50 % to €0.50 per 45 minutes. Keep your ticket – losing it incurs a €30 fine.

Three pricing zones in the city

Outside the medieval centre, surface parking is divided into three colour‑coded zones: light‑green, green and orange.

The closer you park to the historic core, the higher the price, reaching €0.50 for a 30‑minute slot north of Place Carnot. In total, about 1 700 paid spaces complement 3 700 free spots within a five‑minute walk of the centre.

The city parking brochure summarises the offer and highlights attractive rates for short stays. Small fees add up to a significant total.

Carcassonne Airport

Carcassonne has an airport with connections to major Anglo‑Saxon cities such as London, Dublin, Glasgow and Edinburgh, making weekend trips or longer journeys easy.

Airport parking rates are reasonable: the long‑term P3 costs €65 for two weeks, a week in the medium‑term P2 is €44, and €40 for a week in P3.

Despite these prices, savings are possible in the city centre or at the airport. Collaborative parking lets you rent spaces from local residents, offering a cheaper and more convenient alternative for holiday stays.
